Throughout their journey in Godfall, players can choose from a wide variety of quests, all of which will reward them with new weapons and equipment. There are five different weapon classes for players to choose from and each with its own unique fighting techniques. Devastating warhammers deal massive amounts of damage, while dual swords sets can eviscerate foes with rapid flurries of attacks.
7 The Different Types Of Weapon In Godfall
Players can pick from a selection of Dual Swords, Polearms, Greatswords, Warhammers, and Longswords. Each class has two special attacks called a Northern Technique and a Southern Technique. Every weapon the player finds be a specific rarity, from uncommon all the way up to legendary armaments.
The rarity of a weapon determines how many buffs it will have. All blades except uncommon ones will have a primary effect that never changes. Rare, Epic, and Legendary weapons all have additional randomized secondary effects, meaning two versions of the same weapon can be wildly different to use.
6 The Shield Is For More The Just Defense
While the shield isn’t a weapon class, it deserves special mention for being equally useful for striking enemies as it is for blocking them. One mechanic players may not be familiar with in Godfall is the ability to use the shield as a powerful weapon. There is only one shield available in Godfall however, players can find cosmetics to change its appearance. The shield can be used with any weapon class including two-handed ones.
As well as blocking and parrying incoming attacks, the shield can be used offensively. Shield bashes will knock down and wound nearby enemies, or players can choose to throw their shied at priority targets. Doing either of these will deplete the shield charge which will replenish over time so players can recover their shield.
5 Longswords - A Flexible Weapon Class For Beginners
The combat in Godfall is as stylish as it is visceral. Longswords are very suitable for beginners still learning how to master the game. While they are much slower than dual swords, players won’t have to worry about timing their attacks in order to avoid being left vulnerable during long wind-up animations.
With the northern technique, Spectral Flurry players can eviscerate an enemy with a series of rapid strikes, while the Spiral technique can be used to slide into hordes of monsters dealing damage to anything that stands in the way.

4 Greatswords - Slow But Devastating
When it first came out Godfall was met with a disappointing reception, however one aspect in which it excelled was combat. The Valorian Knight is a practically unstoppable warrior, strong enough to hurl even his most enormous weapons at his foes. Greatswords are gigantic blades capable of felling numerous foes in a single sweep. They can also be held up defensively to guard against incoming attacks.
The southern technique for this class is called Great Throw and allows the player to throw their greatsword in a long sweeping arc. Alternatively, the northern technique can be used to rapidly spin the sword while charging into enemies causing a lethal whirlwind of destruction.

3 Polearms - Long Ranged Throwing Spears
While some players will approach Godfall by wading headfirst into hordes of monsters, others might prefer a more cautious fighting style. Polearms have one advantage over other weapon classes as they are far more capable of killing enemies from a distance.
The polearm can be launched by using the Javelin Throw southern technique. The northern technique is especially useful against crowds, as it causes the player to leap into the air slamming their weapon into the ground, stunning and damaging all nearby enemies. Polearms are a great support weapon and synergize well with numerous builds making them a good choice for players who want to use the matchmaking functions added in the Lightbringer update.

2 Warhammers - The Most Powerful Weapons In Godfall
Godfall received its Fire and Darkness expansion back in June offering new loot items and content. For veteran players, one of the hardest weapon classes to master are Warhammers. That said, when used correctly, these enormous bludgeons can be absolutely devastating on the battlefield.
Warhammers are difficult to use as their attacks have long wind-up animations that will leave the player vulnerable. That said once players have the timing down, they will possess a weapon with the strongest physical attacks in the whole game. Both the northern and southern techniques will cause the Valorian Knight to slam their hammer into the ground. Concussive Slam will stun and damage all enemies that are close to the player, while Unstoppable Force creates a shockwave in a straight line that will rip through all foes in its path.

1 Dual Blades - Rapid, Up Close, and Lethal
While warhammers deal the greatest physical damage, some players may want a blade that is less cumbersome. The northern technique for Dual Blades is called Inner Focus, and players can unlock an achievement by using it frequently enough.
These weapons are incredibly fast, with fluid move-sets that allow the player to carve their way through enemy hordes with dancer-like grace. While Inner Focus is a powerful ability for large groups, the southern technique Mortal Coil can be better against bosses as it allows the player to rapidly close distance after dodging an attack.
