The nominees were announced this morning by actors Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva of the NBC comedy series Lopez vs. Lopez with Helen Hoehne, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). In the film categories, Searchlight Pictures’ Irish black comedy The Banshees of Inisherin lead with eight nominations, including Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and Best Actor for Colin Farrell. Fellow Co-stars Brenden Gleeson and Barry Keoghan were nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, and actress Kerry Condon was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. The film’s director, Martin McDonagh, was nominated for Best Screenplay, and composer Carter Burwell is nominated for Best Score.

Other notable nominees include A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, which received nominations for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh, and Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan. Filmmaking duo Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) were nominated for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Paramount Pictures’ Babylon earned five nominations, including Best Motion Picture, Actor for Diego Calva, Actress for Margot Robbie, and Best Supporting Actor for Brad Pitt. Other notable mentions in the musical and comedy categories include Netflix’s murder mystery sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which was nominated for Best Picture and Best Actor (Daniel Craig), and Neon’s dark satire Triangle of Sadness, which earned two nominations, including one for Best Picture.

In the drama section, director Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical film, The Fabelmans, led with five nominations, including Best Motion Picture and Best Actress for Michelle Williams. Spielberg also received nominations for Best Director and Best Screenplay for Tony Kushner. The other nominees for Best Motion Picture - Drama include Disney’s Avatar: The Way of Water, Warner Bros.’ Elvis, Focus Features’ Tár, and Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick. Other notable acting nominees include Cate Blanchett for Tár, Austin Butler for Elivs, Brendan Fraser for The Whale, Ana de Armas for Blonde, and Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Also nominated for Best Director is James Cameron for Avatar: Way of Water and Baz Luhrmann for Elvis. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio received nominations for Best Motion Picture - Animated, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song. Also nominated for Best Animated film are Pixar’s Turning Red and A24’s Marcel The Shell with Shoes On. The Indian-Telugu language epic RRR received two nominations, including Best Motion Picture - Non-English Language and Best Original Song.

ABC’s award-winning sitcom Abbot Elementary leads the television categories with five nominations, including Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy, Best Actress for Quinta Brunson, Best Actor for Tyler James Williams, and Best Supporting Actress for Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph. Netflix’s recent Addams Family adaptation, Wednesday, scored two nominations for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy and Best Actress for lead Jenna Ortega. In the drama categories, HBO’s House of the Dragon is nominated for Best Drama and lead Emma D’Arcy is nominated for Best Actress. Star Wars: Andor received a surprise nomination for lead actor Diego Luna, and the recently concluded second season of HBO’s White Lotus received four nominations, including Best Limited Series and Best Actress for Jennifer Coolidge and Aubrey Plaza.
