The category for the Ultimate Game of the Year is the Golden Joystick Awards’ veritable who’s who of games that released this year. The nominees for this category include Deathloop, Metroid Dread, It Takes Two, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and Resident Evil Village. Each of these titles was able to captivate a strong audience upon release and has stuck out as some of this year’s major titles.

Included with the Golden Joystick Awards are some of the Most Wanted Games that have yet to release. This year’s hotly-anticipated titles include Elden Ring, Halo Infinite, Gotham Knights, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Some of the titles that the Golden Joystick Awards celebrates from previous years are Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, Final Fantasy 14, and Genshin Impact. With both of these awards, developers can roughly gauge which titles gamers are clambering for and which ones have held their attention.

Each major console is represented with the annual Golden Joystick Awards, with all of them represented by their own respective Game of the Year. PC is represented by titles like Chivalry 2, Old World, Pathfinder, and Wildermyth. PlayStation’s potential Game of the Year may be Deathloop, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, or Returnal. Finally, Xbox’s Game of the Year candidates are 12 Minutes, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Psychonauts 2, and The Artful Escape.

The Golden Joystick Awards nominees were chosen by a panel of journalists from gaming brands such as Edge Magazine, Future Games Show, GamesRadar, PC Gamer, Play Magazine, and Retro Gamer. Eligibility for nomination is based on the release date, with titles being considered releasing between Nov 20, 2020, and the date of nomination. The winners are decided by players who vote while they can, with the voting system live until November 5 at 11:00 PM GMT.
