A clip shared by his owner on the dog’s TikTok page, carlyandcaptain, where she regularly shares updates about the puppy, shows Captain being delivered to his owner by airport staff, and in a matter of seconds, he warmed up to her and started kissing her all over.

The clip, which has been viewed over 2.2 million times and liked 372,300 times since last week, comes with a caption that reads: “The day Captain flew interstate to complete [our] family.”

It’s a well-known fact that we love our dogs like family. According to a 2019 YouGov poll of 1,275 adults, around 88 percent of American pet owners say they consider their pets to be members of their family; 66 percent have allowed their pets to sleep in bed with them, while 54 percent buy their pets gifts for the holiday season.

But do dogs reciprocate our love? Scientists at the University of Tokyo studied the role of oxytocin, also known as the love hormone, in a dog’s brain as an influence on social interactions with humans and other dogs and found that oxytocin enhances social motivation to approach and interact with their dog partners and their human partners.

According to VCA Animal Hospitals, dogs do love their owners, and there are some signs you can look out for to understand if your dog does too.

A dog that loves you will put you second only to food, will always be happy to see you, look at you with loving eyes and follow you everywhere!

One user, messsweety, commented: “The way that guy delivered him, you KNOW he’s been cuddling him inside and has now gone to cry his eyes out.” And Nikola Pavlovic said: “I’m crying.”

A user called James Bond pointed out: “As soon as he got the scent he knew he was home happy life together!” And Sarah_j73 added: “Isn’t it amazing how dogs open up to us immediately.”

Angela46 said: “Instant connection for life!” And Gail Waurechen added: “You are going to have the best friend you could ever ask for.”

Caz List said: “So heart melting to watch this, congratulations.” And bobtheminion131 wrote: “The way she dropped her phone but she left it on the floor to pet him.”
