Seeing how wide open the West is right now, the Warriors have a shot to be in the mix for a title once again. It is not something they typically do, but they are eyeing possible upgrades at the trade deadline.
Golden State is monitioring Philadelphia 76ers defensive specialist Matisse Thybulle. The Sacramento Kings were also rumored to be in the mix for the two-time All-Defensive team guard.
Quotes above as per Keith Pompey of Philadelphia Inquirer. This season, Thybulle has not been a common fixture in Doc Rivers’ rotation. In 45 games, he is averaging 2.7 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.9 steals.
Is Matisse Thybulle a good fit for the Golden State Warriors?
While the Warriors don’t usually make moves at the trade deadline, this is one that could pay off for them. Matisse Thybulle is a good buy-low target who could be a key rotational piece for them.
Part of why the Philadelphia 76ers don’t play him much is his offensive limitations. On a team like Golden State, that would not be an issue. Their ball movement-heavy style of play could allow a non-shooter like him to be effective on both ends.
There are many guards and wings the Warriors will need to stop if they want to win another championship. With Klay Thompson and Draymond Green getting older, the roster needs new defensive stoppers. Sliding Thybulle into that role would be perfect for him. He can focus on what he does best without having to worry about his struggles on the other end of the floor.
One thing that might halt a deal like this from getting done is that the 76ers are also in the mix to contend. So, they’ll want a win-now piece of value in return for Thybulle.
Even with his looming restricted free agency this summer, Thybulle could be a big upgrade for the Warriors.
