The title was announced by IGN as part of its ongoing Summer of Gaming event, coming with a quirky trailer and plenty of additional details. It will launch on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch this August, and will be a 2D side-scrolling adventure with a focus on satirical comedy.

It’s not difficult to see what Untold Tales and Demagog Studio will be taking aim at with the game’s humor, as its story envisions a world where the ultra-rich fled Earth to live on Mars following the climate crisis. After most of human life was wiped off the planet, the wealthy turned their former home into an elaborate golf course, visiting to score some hole-in-ones atop the ruins of their fallen society. Investigating the remnants of the dead planet will allegedly be a big part of Golf Club Wasteland’s campaign, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all unfolds.
As for gameplay, players will venture through an array of wacky courses, putting their ball through rundown structures, overgrown factories, and dilapidated construction sites. According to IGN, there will be three modes for players to try their hand at. Story Mode allows players to conquer courses at their own pace, giving them the opportunity to learn the game and fully appreciate its narrative. Challenge Mode, on the other hand, will see them attempt to beat their own personal best runs through each course. Finally, the aptly named Iron Mode will offer players a challenge, with Untold Tales and Demagog Studio warning players that it will allow almost “zero room for error.”
The game looks to be a very different platforming adventure and one that players will be able to get their hands on very soon, with a demo allegedly hitting Steam later this month. Those wanting to keep up to date on the project can wishlist it on the storefront now. In the meantime, there’s plenty of other trailers for intriguing new games to catch up on, including a Soulslike based on Pinnochio called Lies of P and a PT-inspired horror titled Luto.
Golf Club Wasteland is slated to debut on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One this August.
