The new service announcement is no surprise, as Google Play Pass was leaked back in August, and so far all the leaked details have been accurate. Google Play Pass will be available in the U.S.A this week, and more countries will be added to the list soon. Some popular games available with the Play Pass include Limbo, Stardew Valley, Monument Valley, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Terraria, and more. Fortunately, not every family member will have to subscribe to the service because family accounts can share the subscription with up to five family members without any additional charge.

For those who are interested in Google Play Pass, it will be available in the Google Play Store and can be accessed from the top-left menu bar. Games and apps that are part of the Play Pass program will have a special badge on their official Play Store page. According to a press release, Play Pass is invite-only for developers, so developers who are looking to have their games and apps added to the Play Pass service will have to contact Google to get things rolling. Fortunately, developers don’t have to worry about being left out because Google encourages developers to reach out to show their interest in the service and possibly, get their games added.

It’s no surprise that Google is looking to compete with Apple Arcade with its new mobile-game subscription service. So far, the gaming lineup looks solid on the Play Pass with top-tier titles like Limbo and Monument Valley, etc. while Apple Arcade, on the other hand, is taking a more Netflix-like approach with a few service-exclusive titles. However, it remains to be seen which service becomes the fan-favorite; the key to success will definitely be consistent addition of new titles.
